List of Counters
There are different counters for counting the object depending on their nature or shape. Below are the commonly used counters:
1) BAI (倍) - used for multiplicative number; times
2) BAN (番) - used for ranking
3) BANME (番目) - used for ordinal number
4) DAI (台) - used for vehicles or machines
5) DORU (ドル) - used for dollars
6) EN (円) - used for yen
7) FUN (分) - used for minutes
8) GATSU (月) - used for months of the year
9) HAI (杯) - used for cups or glasses
10) HIKI (匹) - used for small animals, fish or insects
11) HON (本) - used for long objects like sticks, bottles, etc.
12) JI (時) - used for time (o'clock)
13) JIKAN (時間) - used for hours
14) KA (日) - used for days of the month starting from second to tenth day
15) KAGETSU (ヶ月) - used for months
16) KAI (回) - used for frequency
17) KIRO (キロ) - used for kilometers or kilograms
18) KO (個) - used for small objects, round, or non-specific shape
19) MAI (枚) - used for thin or flat objects such as paper, board, slice, etc.
20) NEN (年) - used for years
21) NICHI (日) - used for days of the month after the tenth day
22) NIN (人) - used for persons
23) SAI (才) - used for years old
24) SATSU (冊) - used for books, volumes
25) SHUUKAN (週間) - used for weeks
26) WA (羽) - used for birds
