Convenience of using SUICA card

Tips for foreigners who are planning to stay in Japan for work or vacation. It is better to use the SUICA card for your daily train transportation. SUICA is the rechargeable prepaid card of Japan Rail East. It can be used to pay the fare for all trains in Tokyo region, trains, subways and monorails except shinkansen (bullet train).
SUICA can be purchased at vending machines or ticket counters in any Japan railway stations. The initial cost of deposit is 500 yen which is refundable plus the initial load amount. The initial amount is 1500 yen. It can also be recharged at vending machines and the maximum amount to be charged is 20,000 yen. You can check the current balance shown on the small display everytime you pass a ticket gate. The usage history can be checked at vending machines. The card will become invalid if not used for ten years. To refund the 500 yen deposit, just bring the SUICA card to the ticket counter.
Furthermore, it can also be used for shops such as convenience stores, kiosks and restaurants around railway stations instead of cash.
I often used it whenever I go to ramen shops near the train stations.
